Annual church sale features herbs, green elephant table

The annual Plant, Bake and Green Elephant Sale of the First Congregational Church of Buxton will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Tory Hill Meetinghouse near routes 112 and 202.

The event features a variety of annuals, perennials, herbs, baked goods and a green elephant table. There will be an assortment of handmade birdhouses. Hot dogs and beverages will be sold.

Water district offers tours of Sebago Lake facility

The Portland Water District will help residents celebrate National Drinking Water Week with a tour of the Sebago Lake Water Treatment Facility from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at 2 White Rock Road.

Attendees can join the water district to explore the vital role water plays in our daily lives. They can take a tour of the Sebago Lake facility to hear about its three treatment techniques and visit a state-of-the art laboratory where scientists will discuss how the quality and safety of drinking water is tested.

Fair offers fun for kids, camp details for parents

The Family Resource Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. Saturday at All Saint Parish at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 132 McKeen St.

While the children are participating in games and face-painting, parents can learn more about local youth organizations, summer camps and support services.

Representatives from more than 25 organizations will be available to answer questions from parents.

Civil War mourning customs focus of Chamberlain talk

The next Joshua L. Chamberlain Civil War Round Table lecture will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant St., in the Morrell Room.

Elizabeth Hallett will discuss mourning customs during the Civil War era.

BIDDEFORD POOL

York County Audubon holds spring warbler workshop

York County Audubon will present a spring warbler workshop at 6:30 a.m. Saturday at the Biddeford Pool Fire Station.

Maine Audubon’s staff naturalist Doug Hitchcox will head a workshop teaching various techniques for identifying warblers.

There will be an early morning bird walk, followed by the workshop. Register at yorkcountyaudubon.org. The cost is $10 for YCA or Maine Audubon members, and $15 for all others, payable by cash or check at the workshop.

Community Work Day explores Shakers culture

The Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village is opening its doors to friends and volunteers for a Community Work Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 707 Shaker Road.

Join the Shakers and their friends by helping with Spring clean-up and chores throughout the historic buildings, barns, gardens, and grounds. Spend the day enjoying the beauty and serenity of a 235-year-old farm.
