GORHAM — The Little East Conference announced its first set of weekly awards for the 2018 men’s outdoor track and field season Monday afternoon with the University of Southern Maine’s 4 x 400-meter relay being selected as the Relay Team of the Week.
Competing at the Huskies’ season-opening event, the annual Tufts University Snowflake Invitational, the USM foursome of sophomore Cam Labrie, freshman Zach Hoyle , senior Justin Pierce of Standish and Mt. Ararat High School and sophomore Donivyn Harms posted a time of 3:23.64 to finish third in the event.
USM’s time slots the quartet into the seventh spot in the latest New England Region rankings.
Pierce also placed second in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6-02.
The Huskies hit the road on Saturday, traveling to Springfield, Mass., to compete in the Yellow Jacket Invitational at American International College.
