
Swimmers from around the country complete the swims and submit certified distance or time results to the sponsors by post or online. This year, three Brunswick swimmers achieved high national rankings.
In the hour swim, Fred Schlicher placed second nationally among 44 competitors in the 70-74 age group, covering 4,565 yards in an hour.
Dave Bright’s 4,190-yard swim was good for eighth place out of 64 men in the 65- 69 age group.
Schlicher and Bright combined with New England Masters teammate Bill Ryan to take first place in the three-man relay competition for ages 65-74 years.
In the pool mile swim, David Vail ranked second nationally in the 70-74 age group, with a time of 24:24.
Thirty-nine men competed in the pool mile event.
The trio are members of the Polar Bears Masters group out of Bowdoin College.
