Quick action from Topsham firefighters saved Brillant Motors Friday night.
Reported at 6:16 p.m., the fire broke out in an automobile in the garage at 92 Main St.
It flames began to spread to the adjoining office, but firefighters kept the blaze primarily contained to the garage. Vehicles on display at the dealership were undamaged.
“Crews did an excellent job extinguishing the bulk of the fire extremely fast,” said Topsham Fire Chief Chris McLaughlin.
A fire marshal’s investigator was at the dealership Monday as part of a preliminary inquiry.
The garage, built in 1972, was badly damaged. A 2003 Jaguar the dealership had just taken in trade was inside one of the garage bays.
Leon Brillant of the family run Brillant Motors said the business had insurance. Once investigators are done with the building, he expects to start repairs.
The dealership was open for business Monday, Brillant said, and will be opening a temporary office on site.
