TOPSHAM

Three people were taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle collision on the Route 196 Coastal Connector Monday morning.

The crash was reported at 9:44 a.m. Topsham Police Lt. Fred Dunn said the crash occurred when the driver of a utility truck ran a red light and turned left from Community Way onto the Coastal Connector. As the truck entered the intersection, it was struck by a car that had the right of way, Dunn said.

Police say the utility truck was driven by Robert Penney, 56, of Brunswick. He was issued a traffic citation for running the red light.

The driver of the car, a 2003 Mitsubishi, was 83-yearold Victor Blomquist of Dresden. Also in the car were two elderly passengers, Delia Richard of Richmond and Gail Blomquist. Two of the occupants were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland and one was taken to Mid Coast Hospital. Dunn said the injuries weren’t considered incapacitating and that the patients had complaints of pain.
