Freeport ambulance personnel arrived a Maine Medical Center with one more passenger than they started with Monday morning.
Baby boy Weston William Weiss was born in the ambulance — at the intersection of Routes 125 and 136 — en route to the hospital.
Chris Weiss said his fiancé, Traci Turner, had called for an ambulance just before 6 a.m. Monday. Freeport’s Rescue 5 showed up in about 6 minutes and was headed to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
“This is Traci’s third child, so she knew what to expect,” Weiss wrote in an email to The Times Record. “She said to the ambulance driver, ‘I’m not making it to Maine Med!’ Well she was right!”
He said the medics on site were amazing and handled the situation calmly and professionally and the birth couldn’t have gone better.
“I never would have thought I would have a child born in an ambulance!” Weiss wrote. “I am thankful for Freeport Fire and Rescue and the workers working that shift — Kevin Cassidy, Gary Lane, Phil Gilbert and Eric Sylvain.”
A healthy baby, Weston was home by 6 p.m. Tuesday.
