AUGUSTA —There are a handful of primary races for legislative and county offices on the June 12 ballot, but most party candidates will be unchallenged in the primary bids. That means they can exhale — for a bit — until the campaigns for the November election heat up.

Democrat, Green, Libertarian and Republican party candidates had until 5 p.m. Wednesday to secure their places on the primary ballot. Unenrolled candidates have until June 1 to qualify for the November ballot.

For one York County Commission race — District 1,  which includes Acton, Berwick, Cornish, Lebanon, Limerick, Chair. Limington, Newfield, North Berwick —there is no primary race and there very nearly wasn’t a Democratic candidate.

Incumbent Sallie Chandler’s name did not originally appear on the candidate list produced by the Secretary of State’s office. Chandler, of Lebanon, said she’d mailed her nomination papers and had tracked delivery. So she notified the Secretary of State’s Office with the tracking information on Friday and said she’d received a call saying her papers had been found, and she will appear on the ballot.

The Republican candidate is Robert Andrews of Acton.
