Shawn Dumas has been hired as the new operations manager for Kennebunkport Marina, a move that is intended to assist the company in preparing and planning for future growth and expansion.
Marina owner Michael Shea said the move will compliment existing staff working at the facility and will be popular with customers.
“We are thrilled to be bringing Shawn aboard. His keen insight and broad industry experience will provide strong guidance in evolving our operations,” Shea said. “Together with Cathy Norton, marina manager, and Gary Mulsow, yard supervisor, this skilled management team will work to upgrade current marina amenities and expand and enhance service offerings.”

Dumas has been a part of the marine industry in Southern Maine since the early 1980s and learned the business from the ground up, starting as a yard worker at a family shop in Arundel then becoming a certified master technician.
While employed by Yankee Marina, Dumas gained significant experience working with marine engines and complex vessel systems ranging from small boats to 60-foot yachts.
In 2004, he joined Yarmouth Boat Yard as an outboard technician. For the next 14 years, he learned all aspects of the business from sales and parts to service, eventually serving as general manager.
According to Shea, the expertise and understanding of customer needs exhibited by Dumas, coupled with his knowledge of boats and engines helped Yarmouth Boat Yard sustain significant growth during his employment there.
Dumas said he’s happy to join Kennebunkport Marina and looks forward to working with customers and meeting new friends.
“I have always had the utmost respect for the needs of customers. They are relying on us, as their boat servicer, to keep their friends and family safe when they go out on the water,” he said. “I take that responsibility to heart and enjoy building stalwart teams that support that mission.”
His new duties at the marina will be complex, as the full-service facility features dock space, storage, maintenance and rentals and offers seasonal and transient slips on the Kennebunk River. It can accommodate boats up to 100 feet in length.
The business also includes a cottage overlooking the waterfront for short-term stays and a marine supply store with boating and fishing accessories as well as powerboat, canoe, and kayak rentals. Winter storage and seasonal commissioning services are available, along with boat hauling, transport and pick-up services.
