Fitting In
I few years ago I purchased a new sofa and rug. The old sofa, which was too small for my rather large living room, now fits in perfectly in my grandson’s small, cozy den. And the rug, whose colors overwhelmed my south-facing room, now glows warmly and richly in my son’s north facing dining room. Quite often things that don’t fit well in one place work well in others. The trick is to engage a good decorator. Sometimes life is like that. We live our lives trying to figure out where we best fit in, where our place is in this world. We long to commit ourselves to something larger than ourselves. We lose our way as we seek a new direction in our lives, and are moved to change course. Troubles and hardships, grief and sorrow may set us back, but these are the things that turn our attention to God, and when we put God in charge of our lives amazing things can happen. The going may not be much easier, but there will be a sense of purpose and direction, and we will eventually discover that everything fits together perfectly, and we are right where we were meant to be.
