Waltz & Sons, a propane gas home installation and delivery company, will construct a new headquarters complex with an office building in Narragansett Business Park off Route 202 in Buxton.

BUXTON — The Planning Board on Monday approved a request from Waltz & Sons to build a new company complex that includes an office building in the Narragansett Business Park off Route 202.

The longtime Buxton company installs propane gas tanks and appliances for residences in addition to providing the propane. In Monday’s meeting, Skip Waltz said his company serves homes in a 50-mile radius of Portland.

Tom Greer of  Walsh Engineering Associates in Westbrook represented Waltz in Monday’s public hearing. Greer said the office building would be two stories with colonial-style windows.

The project, located in the Business and Commercial District Zone, also includes an area for storage of propane fixtures, storage of tanks, and a maintenance facility. Greer said the maintenance building would have three doors with dormers above them.

Greer said both the office and maintenance buildings would have steep-pitched roofs.

The complex would not have a sign along the highway. It will be served by underground electrical power, a well and septic service. The facility will have a backup generator on site and Greer said the driveway will be “gated off” at night.

The company’s storage of propane is located in Gorham, Greer said. The company has four delivery trucks and 10 drivers delivering propane.

Five employees will work in the company’s new office building in Buxton.

No neighbors or members of the public spoke in the public hearing.

Responding to a question from Planning Board Chairman Jeremiah Ross, Greer said the project would be well buffered. Waltz said his company has operated in a residential area in Buxton for more than two decades with no noise issues.

The Planning Board approved the proposal 4-0 with David Fields absent.

In other action, the board approved a request from Gorham Sand & Gravel for a building expansion and office space at 939 Parker Farm Road. Mark Curtis, company operations manager, said construction would likely take four months.

“We need a little more space,” Curtis said.

The conditions of approval include the town’s fire chief, Nathan Schools, approving the location of a fire hydrant and an associated easement.

The Planning Board set Monday, March 26, as a site walk date for Lefebvre Sand & Gravel that wants to build a 40′ by 32′ pole barn at its property at 84 Webster Road.
