WESTPORT ISLAND
The historic Squire Tarbox Inn has been sold, according to a news release.
In a transaction that closed early last month, Lismi Joint Venture LLC purchased the property from Veronica and Mario DePietro for $658,500.
The DePietros acquired Squire Tarbox Inn in 2003 and have transformed it into a culinary destination. The Squire Tarbox Inn dining room was recently named Maine’s “Coziest Restaurant” by Food & Wine.
“Mario had an extensive and impressive culinary career prior to the Squire Tarbox Inn and his vast experience coupled with the property’s charming ambiance were a recipe for success,” said Alyssa Bouthot of the Swan Agency Sotheby’s International Realty, who represented the sellers.
The 12-acre property includes rolling lawns, frontage on Squam Creek, and a small working farm with chickens and vegetable gardens. Listed on the National Register of Historical Places, the Squire Tarbox Inn buildings date from 1763 and 1820. Many of the original timbers, boards, moldings and fireplaces have been preserved and are still in use.
“After 16 years at the Squire Tarbox Inn, this sale came at the right time,” said Mario DePietro. “We are looking forward to retirement and intend to stay on Westport Island for the foreseeable future.”
