STANDISH — Saint Joseph’s College (1-0) kicked off the 2018 women’s lacrosse season with a 19-10 victory over Husson University (0-1) on a blustery Saturday afternoon at the SJC Athletics Complex.
The Monks held a 3-2 lead 10 minutes into the contest before rattling off six unanswered goals, including back-to-back strikes from freshman attack Emily Ryan at the tail end of the surge to lift the hosts to a 9-2 advantage with 8:54 before the break.
Saint Joseph’s led off the second half with a 5-1 run, as freshman attack Josie Ring potted her first NCAA goal at the 16:47 mark to extend her team’s lead to 14- 4.
Husson hung in behind the play of Maddy Olsen of Phippsburg and Paige Daigle of Bath. Olsen led the Eagles with four goals and five draw controls, while Daigle picked up a pair of goals, an assist, three ground balls and three draw controls.
Saint Joseph’s hosts Thomas College tonight (6 p.m.), while Husson visits Mount Saint Mary on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
