A Cornville woman was arrested by Fairfield police on Tuesday after allegedly being found with 67 grams of heroin stashed in her bra.
Police said Miranda Schmidt, 19, was a passenger in a car stopped by officer Jordan Brooks on Center Road in Fairfield. Sgt. Paul St. Amand said Schmidt first gave police a false name. While on her way to jail to be tested for drugs, which was part of Schmidt’s three sets of bail conditions, she admitted having heroin concealed in her bra.
Before they arrived at the jail, Schmidt — while still handcuffed — managed to get some of the heroin and tried to ingest it, St. Amand said.
Brooks was able to get the heroin out of her mouth and took her to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan, where Schmidt was monitored and released back into custody.
Schmidt had 67 grams of heroin in her bra, according to St. Amand. The heroin was in “finger” form, which is usually how it is shipped in bulk, St. Amand said. The heroin has a street value of about $12,000.
Heroin residue was left in the back of the patrol vehicle, which was taken out of service until it could be cleaned professionally.
Schmidt is being held at the Somerset County Jail and has a May 16 court date, facing charges of aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs, a class A felony; falsifying physical evidence, class D; and with sale and use of drug paraphernalia, a civil violation.
