
She was born in Saco on April 3, 1926, a daughter to the late James and Pota Pappaspiridakos Vlahakos.
Helen attended Saco schools, graduating from Thornton Academy, Class of 1944. After graduation, she moved to Boston where she began a dedicated and distinguished 30-year career working for the Bank of Boston.
Helen returned to Saco in 1991, and began volunteering her time to numerous organizations; Wardwell and the American Red Cross being a couple of her favorites. She was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Daughters of Penelope, St. Fotini Ladies Society, and the Sorority of Lacones.
Helen will be sadly missed by many.
Helen is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothea J. Vlahakos, Viola J. Vlahakos and Irene J. Vlahakos; and her brother, Nicholas J. Vlahakos.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Andre’s Healthcare for all the compassionate care and support they extended to Helen, especially Dr. John Kazilionis, Karen, Crystal, Carolee and Donna.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Saco. Burial will follow at St. Demetrios Cemetery in Biddeford.
