AUGUSTA — The Brunswick High School girls basketball team won its first Kennebec Valley Conference championship since 1984 with a 48-39 victory over Hampden Academy on Saturday at Cony High School.
Senior Sabrina Armstrong paced the 19-0 Dragons with 12 points. Charlotte MacMillan tallied nine points and five steals while Rian Sachs registered eight points, four steals and a pair of assists.
Lexi Guptil and Marley Groat added nine and eight points, respectively. Groat also added seven steals, six assists and four boards in the win.
Hampden was led by Bailey Donovan’s eight points followed by Peyton Smith and Brooklyn Scott’s six points each.
Brunswick plays next in the Class A South quarterfinals at the Portland Expo on Monday at 7:30 p.m. versus Falmouth, which defeated Morse, 58-54 in Monday’s Class A South preliminary game.
