Trusting God

Do you remember the words to that old song, “He flies through the air with the greatest of ease, that daring young man on the flying trapeze?” Now to us this may look easy but, in fact, it takes great skill and enormous courage for the flyer to let go and fly through the air at high speed trusting that his catcher will be there to catch him at precisely the right moment. It is an act that is built on mutual trust. Their lives are in each other’s hands, so if they don’t trust one another there could be a big problem. The flyer must not try to catch the catcher. The flyer must fly and the catcher must catch. The trust they have in one another is the result of a closely bonded relationship built up over time, much like our relationship to God. When we place our complete trust in God we are like the flyer. When we let go of our own agenda and prayerfully give our lives over to God he will be there to catch us. Trust God. When the time comes he will be there for us, and of that we can be sure.
