CAPE ELIZABETH — Online registration for the 21st annual TD Beach to Beacon 10K road race will begin March 15 and will look slightly different this year.

Cape Elizabeth residents can register on the race website for 600 allotted spots starting at 7 a.m. on March 15. Registration for the general public will begin at 7 a.m. March 16, with a limit of 4,000 spaces. The race entry fee is $65.

A lottery for the 1,950 remaining slots will take place from March 16 through March 25, with lottery entrants announced on March 27.

A new entry system will require registrants to enter a “queuing portal” or “virtual line” when registration is launched. This will allow participants to complete their registration without losing their spot in line.

“We made this change in recognition of the increasingly high demand for the TD Beach to Beacon and in response to feedback received by registrants who felt frustrated by the process,” race founder and Olympic gold medalist Joan Benoit Samuelson said in a news release.

Following close of registration and the lottery, remaining bibs in the field of more than 6,000 runners will be distributed beginning April 1 to world-class athletes, new and past beneficiaries, sponsors, and more than 100 “legacy” runners who have participated in each of the past races.
