BOWDOINHAM — The Maine Community Foundation’s Richard Ferrier Scholarship offers financial assistance to Bowdoinham residents aged 13-18 to pursue their artistic, academic, athletic and vocational or life’s passion outside of the traditional school environment.
Eligible applicants must be residents of Bowdoinham who clearly demonstrate a need for financial assistance. Preference is for applicants who have resided in Bowdoinham for at least one year. Awards are not retroactive; the student’s program must start after June 1 of the application year. The fund does not pay for equipment, instruments, or driver’s ed.
Last year, the committee awarded $7,955 to 21 students who used the funds to participate in activities including sports camps, fiddle camp, jazz lessons, circus camp, and horse camp.
The application deadline for the Ferrier Scholarship is April 1. Paper applications are available at the Bowdoinham Town Office, the Bowdoinham Public Library, and at the Maine Community Foundation website, www.mainecf.org to download and print. We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
