KENNEBUNK — Kennebunk freshman Emily Archibald put on a show on Tuesday night as she led the Rams to a 56-46 win over visiting Biddeford in front of a large crowd.

Archibald finished the game with 18 points and 22 rebounds as she helped the Rams improve to 8-7 and move up to fifth place in the Class A South standings.

“That’s like video game stuff,” said Kennebunk coach Rob Sullivan of Archibald’s double-double.

The Kennebunk coach was impressed with the freshman’s performance, but he also loves the fact that Archibald cares more about the team getting a win than her own numbers.

“I think the best thing about Emily is that she’s a team player through and through,” said Sullivan.

Kennebunk had plenty of chances to blow the game wide open in the first three quarters, but it wasn’t until the final few minutes that the win was secure.

“I was very pleased tonight. That was one of our better four-quarter games,” said Sullivan, who knows his team still has work to do. “We still had what we kind of call ‘goofy time.’ We had a minute here in ‘goofy’ and a minute there in ‘goofy’ and we just kind of do stuff that’s indicative of an inexperienced team.”

The Rams let the Tigers hang around, but in the end they made the plays needed to get the W.

“Our kids made those plays that maybe we didn’t make early in the season, but they made those plays to finish it out,” Sullivan said.

The Rams would also get 12 points from both Jessica Dupler and Alaina Schatzabel, and Ellen Neale made a couple of big plays that got Sullivan’s attention.

“We had a kid, Ellen Neale, who came off the bench and played solid minutes. She ended the first half with a 3-point play and she had a huge steal … she’s a kid who hasn’t played much but made the most of it tonight,” said Sullivan.

Biddeford coach Katie Herbine was disappointed with her team’s play in the opening half, but was proud of how they fought back all night long.

“We didn’t come in ready to play in the first half and had a deficit right away and it’s hard to continually fight back on the road. At home I think it’s a different story, but on the road it’s really tough,” said Herbine. “Credit Kennebunk, they did a great job, they kept their heads, they hit some big shots and they played some great defense. Absolutely credit to them, but our kids fought hard and that’s all we can ask for.”

The Tigers got another huge game from Gracie Martin, who finished with 23 points, and Charli Yoho added 11 points in the loss.
