Editor,
The Biddeford City Manager stated during a City Council workshop on Jan. 16, 2018 that the cost of the parking garage, will be paid for by parking revenues, not by property tax payers. It was also stated that the garage would be good for 40 to 50 years, if it was well maintained. The present cost of a parking space in Biddeford is $40 per month.
With that said, it will take over 62 years (at maximum occupancy) to pay for a $12 million dollar (400) space parking structure/garage, that has a life expectancy of 40 to 50 years, not including the maintenance costs and the high interest cost of a revenue bond.
Why am I not feeling positive about this?
Lionel Beaudoin,
Biddeford

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
