OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The visiting Gould Academy boys basketball team held on to beat Old Orchard Beach 49-48 on Friday night.

The two team would battle and exchange leads throughout the second half, but Gould made the shots down the stretch to pull ahead and secure the win.

Ian Regan led OOB with a game-high 21 points while Dale Lord added eight. Alex Shoureas led Gould with 18 points while teammate Ernie Lorange scored 12.

The Seagulls fall to 6-7 on the year but maintain one of the final spots in the Class C South playoff picture.

Portland 78, Thornton Academy 39

The Trojans fell to defending state champion Portland on Friday.

Will Chapman had a solid outing for TA, scoring the Trojans’ first 13 points. Payton Jones added 10 points in the loss.

Thornton Academy 68, York 65

The Trojans held off the hosting Wildcats on Friday to secure the TA unified program’s first-ever win in its two-year history.
