Pearls of Wisdom
How do we deal with all the painful irritants in our lives? When things get under our skin we can simply try to ignore them and hope they will go away, or we can turn them into pearls, well, maybe not actual ones that you could make a necklace out of, but pearls of wisdom. Consider the humble oyster. When a tiny grain of sand or other irritant lodges inside of its shell it begins to coat it with layer after layer of nacre, which, over time results in the formation of a beautiful pearl. The process can take a year or more. It takes time to develop wisdom. We do not get wisdom out of a textbook. One can be knowledgeable without being wise. It has been said that knowledge is knowing how to use a gun. Wisdom is knowing when and when not to use it. Wisdom is having the capacity to figure out what is true and lasting and what is of value in life. When we cultivate patience and perseverance we gain wisdom which gives us a sense of self-worth and inner peace that brings us into harmony with God. Pearls of wisdom! What could be more beautiful!
