KENNEBUNK — The New School has received a gift from the estate of Lynn Collins of 1,700 pounds of quilt fabric.

The fabrics are fine cotton in a multitude of colors, prints and many sizes and the school will host a fabric sale to  support The New School Intensive Studies Program.

The sale will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at The New School, 38 York St. Kennebunk, a short distance south of the town center on Route 1.

Soup and salad will be available at lunch time as sorting through all that lovely fabric could take quite a while.

Fabric will sell at $3 to $4 a yard.  Since there are three yards in a pound, the sale will actually be $10 a pound.  Beyond 10 pounds there will be a 10 percent discount.  All the fabric is valued at $8 to $12 a yard.

The New School is an independent, democratic high school in Kennebunk.

The Intensive Study Program is a three-week adventure in learning in a challenging environment.  This year one group of students will work on a farm in Florida, helping recovery from the hurricanes.

A second group will travel to Oaxaca Mexico for immersion Spanish, learning about pre-Colombian history and volunteer work.

The third group will study the physics of the circus and other practical and adventurous applications of physics.
