The future USS Michael Monsoor, a Navy guided-missile destroyer in the final stages of construction at Bath Iron Works, stopped in Portland Harbor on Wednesday during the ship’s latest round of at-sea trials.

The Monsoor is the second of three Zumwalt-class stealth destroyers built at BIW and is named for Petty Officer Second Class Michael A. Monsoor, a Navy SEAL posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for saving the lives of teammates during combat in Iraq.

BIW and the Navy cut short the destroyer’s first round of sea trials – also known as “builder trials” – last month after an equipment failure prevented testing of some systems. The 600-foot-long, $4 billion warship is expected to be delivered to the Navy this spring.
