LEEDS — No injuries were reported when a pickup truck collided with a train bound for Rumford early Wednesday, stalling traffic at the junction of routes 219 and 106 for roughly two hours, the Maine State Police said.

The rented pickup, owned by U-Haul and driven by Danny Arnold, 47, of Turner, was moving too fast for the snowy conditions and crashed into a slowly moving train, trooper Nathan Jamo said.

The railroad and warning lights had been activated.

Arnold was “in my estimation, going too fast for the road conditions. It had been snowing. There was a couple of inches on the ground at that time and his brakes locked up and basically just slid into the train,” Jamo said.

The freight train, owned by Pan Am Railways, was traveling northbound on its way to Rumford. The train stopped after the collision about 5 a.m., Jamo said.
