Sharing the Love
Oh how we tend to take for granted the amenities of life! Central Maine Power Company tells us to “Just flip a switch and we’ll be there.” We raise the thermostat and the furnace kicks on, turn on the faucet and clean, clear water runs hot and cold, and with the first turn of the key or press of the button the automobile engine springs to life. But then Old Man winter arrives and the temperature plunges to zero and below, the wind rages, the snow piles up, the power goes off, the pipes freeze, or we may discover that the car battery is dead. In the twinkling of an eye our lives can spiral out of control. And it is then that we realize how dependent we are on others for our comfort and survival. The truth is that we need each other, physically, spiritually and emotionally. When a loved one dies, or we experience health problems, our marriages fail, our children disappoint us, or we lose our job, it is then that we reach out to others, and it is in the comforting presence of other caring people that we feel the love of God. We all abide in God’s love, and we are called to share that love with others.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
