Police are still investigating the death of Sokha Khuon, 36, who was found in her Dorothy Street home Sunday.
A 36-year-old woman whose death Jan. 7 is the subject of an ongoing police investigation is being remembered as someone loved by her friends and family, and who relished spending time in her garden and cooking new dishes.
An obituary of Sokha Khuon in Saturday’s Portland Press Herald says the mother of three is survived by her mother and several siblings, in addition to her children. The obituary omits any mention of her husband, Anthony Leng.
Khuon was found dead in her home Sunday after police were called to her Dorothy Street home about 10 p.m. when a neighbor reported hearing the sound of gunshots. The home is in a quiet residential neighborhood near Morrill’s Corner and Riverton School.
When police arrived, the two younger children were found outside the home, according to police. Investigators have declined to discuss whether Leng was at the home that night.
“Sokha was truly a sweet person with a great personality,” the Khuon family wrote in the obituary. “She was known to be outgoing and had a great sense of humor.”
Khuon, who was born in Thailand in 1981, graduated from Portland High School in 2000. A neighbor, Kimberly Grant, said it was during that period when she met Leng.
Most recently, Khuon worked at Direct Mail Maine.
Police did not respond to a request for comment Friday evening regarding the status of the investigation.
Portland police officers were at the home during the past week continuing an investigation into what they have described only as a suspicious death. The police department and the state Medical Examiner’s Office have declined to provide any further information about the circumstances of Khuon’s death. A police spokesman said investigators plan to meet Tuesday to discuss developments, after which more information may be made public.
Neighbors of the couple said they are perplexed by the death of Khuon, who they described as quiet and family-oriented. Her husband, an assistant maintenance technician for the Portland Housing Authority, is known as outgoing, and someone who seems to relish the chance to help neighbors out.
