KENNEBUNK — The Kennebunk Free Library is pleased to announce Michelle Conners has been hired as the new Library Director.
The KFL Board of Trustees conducted a nationwide search with representation from library staff, residents and the Town of Kennebunk municipal executives.
Conners will manage the library in its role of providing quality services that inspire and enrich the community.
“Michelle’s organizational skills and library science expertise, not to mention her experience as our Assistant and then Interim Director advanced her to the top of our list for the director search. We know that KFL patrons will benefit from her knowledge of KFL and her leadership,” said Karen Plattes, President, KFL Board of Trustees.
Conners has worked for the past two years as the Assistant Director and Head of Adult Services at KFL. During that time, she has facilitated close to 400 programs bringing in 4,600 attendees.
Before coming to KFL, Michelle worked at the Walker Memorial Library in Westbrook and the Long Island Maritime Museum and Elward Smith Library in West Sayville, N.Y. She received her MLIS from Queens College, in Flushing, N.Y. and was a member of the 2015 New England Library Leadership Symposium cohort and the Maine Library Leadership Institute.
KFL also is encouraging individuals to apply for a Board of Trustees position.
The KFL Board of Trustees is currently welcoming individuals with a passion for their local library to apply to join the Board of Trustees. As a Trustee, you will team with other members in preserving
and advancing the interests of KFL.
The Board represents the broader community by effectively governing the operations and promoting the development of KFL.

The Kennebunk Free Library was officially created in 1882 as a free reading room. Today the Library is a private, 501(C)(3) non-profit organization, supported by town funds and community donations and is governed by an all-volunteer Board of Trustees.
The mission of the Kennebunk Free Library is to serve the diverse cultural, informational, educational and recreational needs of the community.
The Library is located at 112 Main St. on the corner of Main and Fletcher Streets in downtown Kennebunk. The Library provides free open access to its physical and electronic collections and
information, as well as to its programs and services.
