Jeremy Norris, 45, was charged with elevated aggravated assault, domestic violence criminal threatening and domestic violence assault, according to a statement from Sabattus Police Chief Gary Baillargeon. Saco Police also charged Norris with creating a police standoff, said Baillargeon.
Sabattus Police received a call of a domestic violence incident around 1:20 a.m. on Tuesday, according to Baillargeon. Norris and a 51-year-old woman were traveling on Middle Road in Sabattus when Norris reportedly “savagely attacked” the woman, according to Baillargeon. Norris allegedly punched her twice in the side of the head with a closed fist and stabbed her twice, resulting in non-life threatening injuries to her neck and shoulder, said Baillargeon.
The woman jumped out of the car, which was moving slowly, and ran to a local residence to seek help, said Baillargeon. Norris then fled the area, said Baillargeon.
Sabattus Police tracked Norris to the Ramada Inn at North Street in Saco and called Saco Police for assistance. Saco Police found Norris’ car parked at the hotel and stopped him as he was leaving the parking lot around 9:30 a.m, said Baillargeon. Norris refused to get out of his car and a standoff ensued, said Baillargeon.
Saco Police negotiators were able to speak with Norris, and he surrendered around 11 a.m. and was taken into custody without incident, said Baillargeon.
Sabattus Police Lt. Sheila Wetherbee and Officer Gregory Mailhot arrested Norris and brought him to the Androscoggin County jail, said Baillargeon. Norris was denied bail.
Baillargeon thanked the Saco Police Department in the statement for their help in getting a dangerous individual off the streets.
“The Sabattus Police Department and the Saco Police Department communicated extremely well together during the entire incident which resulted in a peaceful outcome,” said Baillargeon.
The Sabattus Police Department is continuing this investigation and more charges may be forthcoming after a review with the Androscoggin County District Attorney’s Office, said Baillargeon.
