BIDDEFORD — Residents expecting trash collection on Monday in Biddeford are going to have to make alternative plans.

In announcing its 2017 holiday trash collection schedule, the city is informing Biddeford residents of a delay in refuse pickup.

In order to give trash collectors Christmas Day and New Year’s Day off to spend with their families, there will not be trash and recycling pickup service on Monday, Dec. 25, and Monday, Jan. 1, in Biddeford.

Residents on routes where trash is normally picked up on those days will have their trash picked on the following Tuesday.

Also, the Biddeford Transfer Station at 371 Hill St. will close at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, for the holiday and will reopen at its regular time on Tuesday, Dec. 26.

As a reminder, in accordance with city ordinances, residents are exempt from the separation and overflow requirements for the trash and recycling collection period immediately following the Christmas holiday.

There is no requirement to use the city’s orange “Pay As You Throw ” bags for any overflow trash on the following trash pickup days:

• Tuesday, Dec. 26

• Wednesday, Dec. 27

• Thursday, Dec. 28

•  Friday, Dec. 29

Starting with the Wednesday, Jan. 3 trash collections, rules for the separation and overflow of trash are back in effect following the holiday season, meaning the use of the city’s orange Pay As You Throw bags will again be required.
