Christmas spirit will be in full swing in downtown Bath on Friday for Bright Night Bath, as businesses hold extended hours with festive themes for last-minute shoppers.
“Bath is the ideal place for that old town feel, with small businesses and doing your shopping in town with all the Christmas lights,” said Main Street Bath Interim Director Mari Eosco. “It’s what a lot of us have as an idea of Christmas.”
Bath’s business district will be decked out in decorations, with lights and wreaths lining the streets. There will be a new light display in the downtown area and Waterfront Park, according to Main Street Bath.
Local businesses will also be contributing to the festive atmosphere with the annual window decorating contest, hosted by Main Street Bath. Downtown establishments are encouraged to decorate their windows with a chance to win prizes. Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite display.
The contest is already underway, and the last day to vote is Sunday. Visitors that come out for Bright Night Bath can submit some of the final votes before they’re all tallied and prizes are awarded. Voters will automatically be entered in a drawing to win a basket of goodies from vendors all over town. Ballots are available in most retail stores, according to Main Street Bath.
There will also be free trolley rides throughout the night that will whisk visitors around town to see the best lights.
Santa Claus will also be making an appearance at Island Treasure Toys during the evening to get a better idea of what presents area children are interested in. Other downtown businesses will be offering unique experiences as well. Santa’s elves will be helping out during Lisa-Marie’s Made in Maine’s Christmas Open House, and Now You’re Cooking will host an open house wine tasting.

After a full evening of visiting small businesses, shoppers can cap the evening with a performance of the musical “Scrooge!” at the Chocolate Church Arts Center at 7:30 p.m.
Everyone is encouraged to wear Santa hats throughout the evening. Bright Night Bath officially runs from 5-8 p.m. on Friday.
