Once again, an old-fashioned Christmas is coming to West Bath.

A traditional candlelight Yuletide service will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, at the historic Old West Bath Meeting House, located at 680 Berry’s Mill Road. This holiday celebration is a free community event, and all faiths are welcome.

Rev. Holly Morrison will preside over the ecumenical service, as she did last year. Carols will be sung, and scriptures and poems, including a Native American prayer for peace, will be read by community members. West Bath’s Susie Knowles will again play the old pump organ, while Sue Mack will play the bagpipes.

Rev. Morrison serves as full-time pastor of the Phippsburg Congregational Church, United Church of Christ. She previously served congregations in Maine, Colorado, Washington State, and Alaska. She shares a farm in Pownal with her bagpipe-playing wife.

Home-baked goods and cider will be served afterwards, courtesy of the West Bath Historical Society, which is hosting the event, as it has for almost two decades.

The evening’s offering will be donated to the student “backpack” outreach at the West Bath elementary school, which provides many students with much-needed weekend food.
