OLD ORCHARD BEACH — It looks like Wings 4 Wishes, the event that brought planes to the beach this fall, will be back again next year.
About 15 planes made the town beach their landing strip on Oct.1 at the Wings 4 Wishes fly-in event. The event drew an estimated 5,000 spectators.
The Wings 4 Wishes fly in was spearheaded by 15-year-old Chase Walker, a local high school student and aviation enthusiast. Walker organized the event in conjunction with local community group OOB365.
Town Manager Larry Mead said at a recent town council meeting he met with town staff and the organizers of the Wings for Wishes event to recap the Oct. 1 event.
“We all agreed the event was successful and it warranted giving it another shot,” said Mead.
Mead said next year’s event is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 22.
This year’s event was a fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish foundation. Organizers have announced on Facebook that next year’s event will raise money for Honor Flight Maine. Honor Flight Maine is an organization that transports World War II veterans to war memorials in Washington, D.C. at no cost to the veteran.
