WELLS — The Wells Chamber of Commerce is making last-minute prerparations for the 32nd Annual Christmas Parade to be held on Sunday, Dec. 10.

The parade starts at 2 p.m. from the Wells Plaza and proceeds north on Route 1 to the Wells Junior High School.  The theme this year is “A Christmas Wish.”

Grand Marshal for this year’s parade is June (Hilton) Messier, a well-known figure in Wells. As a young girl, June summered in Wells with her grandparents and at the age of 14 remained in Wells attending Wells High School and graduating in 1948.

She married Roger Messier in 1952 and they have two children, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

June’s volunteer efforts in Wells are legendary.  She served on the school board for eight years, was an officer in the Wells Grange for more than 25 years, a board member for the Historical Society of Wells and Ogunquit, and served on the Wells 350th Celebration steering committee,

She’s also been one of the earliest members of the Senior Needs Committee of Wells and Ogunquit where she became (and still is) the Treasurer and worked tirelessly on efforts to raise funds to build the Wells and Ogunquit Center at Moody (Senior Center) and is the committee chair for the Wells Summer Concert Series at Harbor Park.

For her unselfish efforts to benefit the community, June received a Governor’s Award for Service and Volunteerism at a State House ceremony in April 2013.

The parade’s Primary Event Sponsor is Kennebunk Savings. Gold Sponsors are Abbott Bros. Tree Service and Avita of Wells and the Silver Sponsor is DF Richard Energy.

York Hospital in Wells will be serving hot cocoa and cookies in front of the Junior High School gymnasium at the conclusion of the parade.

Families, youth groups, civic groups, businesses and individuals are cordially invited to join the parade and there is no charge to participate.
