KENNEBUNKPORT — Police are reminding Christmas Prelude goers to heed parking regulations.

Kennebunkport’s 36th annual Christmas Prelude, sponsored by the Kennebunkport Business Association, begins Nov. 30 and runs through Dec. 10.

Some of the festival’s highlights include a tree lighting ceremony in Dock Square at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1; the hat parade, a crowd favorite, that runs through downtown at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2; the fireworks display at the cove near 2 Western Ave. in Kennebunk at 6:15 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9; and the Pooch Parade at Consolidated School at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10.

“We hope all visitors to the events enjoy their time but we need you to respect others and be patient,” said Kennebunkport Police in a written statement.

Police say parking is always an issue, and they will ticket and tow where appropriate. Police remind people that there are “NO PARKING” signs posted throughout the Dock Square area during the festival.

Police ask people to watch out for pedestrians and be aware that traffic will be diverted at different times during the more than week-long event. Extra patrol vehicles, both marked and unmarked, will be out to assist with safety, police said.
