FARMINGTON — A Phillips man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to sexually assaulting two children under the age of 15.
Michael Harriman, 27, of Phillips, entered the pleas to two class A counts of gross sexual assault. He was indicted on the charges Nov. 1. A conviction on a class A crime is punishable by a maximum 30 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
Harriman was arrested Sept. 1 after Maine State Police Detective Michael Chavez, of the Major Crimes Unit-South, observed interviews with two children at a Children’s Advocacy Center.
Harriman is being held in lieu of $15,000 cash bail on the Franklin County charge. He also is being held without bail for a probation violation stemming from a conviction in 2010 in Androscoggin County. It is connected to a break-in at a Lisbon apartment and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
A dispositional conference on the Franklin County case was set for Feb. 6, 2018.
Deputy District Attorney James Andrews said he was satisfied with the bail currently in place because there is no bail in the Androscoggin County case.
There have been new disclosures in the Franklin County case, he said, and new interviews conducted with the child victims.
A probation revocation hearing was scheduled for Jan. 30.
