SACO — Good Shepherd Parish has announced that the Rev. Robert Gaudreau has been appointed temporary pastoral administrator of St. Peter the Fisherman Parish in Machias.

Roman Catholic Bishop Robert P. Deeley of the Diocese of Portland said that Gaudreau will start his new duties for St. Peter the Fisherman Parish on Jan. 1.

Currently serving as the parochial vicar at Good Shepherd Parish, Gaudreau works with the parishioners at Holy Trinity Church in Saco; St. Joseph Church in Biddeford; St. Margaret Church in Old Orchard Beach; St. Philip Church in Lyman; and St. Brendan Church in Biddeford Pool.

In his new position, Gaudreau will serve churches at Holy Name Church in Machias; Sacred Heart Church in Lubec; St. Michael Church in Cherryfield; and St. Timothy Church in Campobello, New Brunswick.

He is originally from Rhode Island and obtained bachelor’s degrees in philosophy from Our Lady of Providence Seminary in Warwick, Rhode Island, and in theology from the Université de Sherbrooke in Sherbrooke, Québec. Gaudreau also earned a master’s degree in French from Rhode Island College.

Gaudreau taught religion, French, and Spanish in schools in Québec, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island for 25 years and was ordained to the priesthood on Nov. 7, 2008, in Sherbrooke, Québec, for the Archdiocese of Sherbrooke. 

Before moving to Maine, he served as pastor and administrator at parishes in Sherbrooke, Windsor, and Stanstead, all in the province of Québec.

For two years in 2014 and 2015, Gaudreau was a temporary parochial vicar at Corpus Christi Parish in Waterville, Our Lady of the Snows Parish in Dexter and St. Agnes Parish in Pittsfield.

He was appointed as the parochial vicar for Good Shepherd Parish in August 2015.
