ALFRED — On Tuesday, several citizens called authorities to report that a man representing himself as a York County Sheriff’s deputy called Vance Berry left them a voice mail message saying he had an “urgent” court matter to discuss with them.

“Deputy Vance” left the call back number of 231-2474, said York County Sheriff William King.

“Clearly, this is a scam call,” said King. “There is no Deputy Vance Berry with the sheriff’s office and the telephone number does not belong to the sheriff’s office.

Community members who receive this call are urged to contact their local authorities, King advised.
