Pecha Kucha Night is the popular series of short, creative presentations by local people and others. The Landing School in Arundel is a unique community college specializing in yacht design, wooden boat building, composite boat building and marine systems.
As always, this PK Night will feature 10 passion-projects, but this time they will be diverse, creative takes on ocean-related subjects, such as boat building, seascape art, ancient seabed fossils, dockworker photography, the miracle of plankton, and more.
The Pecha Kucha Committee is still seeking submissions related to all things marine. Do you have a fish story to tell? Make sea-related art? Take marine photos? Have a passion for cooking seafood? Use your imagination. The committee interprets the theme broadly and welcomes diversity within it. Applying is easy. Just send three to five sample images, a brief bio, and short description to Pechakucha.kennebunk@gmail.com. The deadline for applying is October 25.
Event night doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the program starts at 7:20 p.m. Cost is $5 at the door.
Launched in 2003 by two Tokyo architects, Pecha Kucha (Japanese for “chit chat”) is a short presentation format that focuses on creativity and the creative process. It was conceived to provide creative professionals and amateur enthusiasts with a place to meet, mingle and share their work and ideas.
Each presentation is limited to just six minutes and forty seconds, so the audience is exposed to many ideas and a broad range of topics in rapid-pace succession. The list of possible topics is endless. The program consists of 10 short presentations, with a refreshment break after the first five. Beer and wine will be available for purchase; light snacks provided free of charge.
Pecha Kucha Night has become an international sensation, presented in more than 900 cities around the world. It’s a must-see “happening” for anyone interested in new ideas and creative thinking, and an inexpensive, fun night out with a group of fascinating people – maybe even your neighbors.
