BRUNSWICK
Brunswick police say an elderly man is dead following a car crash Monday night.
On Monday at 7:48 PM, the Brunswick Police Department received a call about of a sedan driving southbound in the northbound lane of the divided section of US Route 1 in the Cooks Corner area. Officers responded but were unable to arrive prior to the sedan colliding head-on with a minivan travelling northbound on US. Route 1.
The elderly driver of the sedan died at the scene. Two adult occupants of the minivan were transported to Midcoast Hospital and one teenage youth was transported to Maine Medical Center.
Route 1 Northbound was closed for about forty minutes. Topsham Police and Maine DOT assisted with the road closure. Topsham Rescue assisted Brunswick Fire and Rescue with treatment of the injured.
Route 1 northbound will continue to be reduced to one lane in the area of Cooks Corner this evening to while the Maine State Police conduct a fatal accident investigation.
No further details surrounding the crash will be released until tomorrow as it is expected to take at least the evening to locate next of kin.
