BRUNSWICK — The Committee to Restore the Abyssinian Meeting House and UU Church of Brunswick are presenting an event on Saturday at 7 p.m. to support and celebration of the Abyssinian Meeting House restoration effort.
“We Shall Overcome: Lessons in Nonviolent Communication” will feature a reflection – “My Journey to Nonviolence” by Sonya Green, Associate Minister at Union Baptist Church in Hartford, Connecticut; spirituals sung by Markis Larrivee accompanied by Grace Lewis- McLaren; a reading from the Brunswick Theater Project upcoming production of “Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy;” and an historical look at the song, “We Shall Overcome.”
The Abyssinian Meeting House in Portland, built in 1928, is the third oldest African-American Meeting House in the United States. The evening is open to the public. Free will offerings will be welcomed to support the restoration effort.
