
Roger Barr, vice commander of American Legion Post 62 in Westbrook, left, recently honors Robert Barton for his three decades of service to the post. The ceremony, led by Commander Richard Galipeau and Barr, recognized Barton by presenting him with a special plaque honoring his past service. This was followed by the creation of a yearly program in his name that recognizes an outstanding Legionnaire for service in the previous year. The first recipient of the award was Phil Leclerc of Windham.
Trail grand opening
Rachelle Curran Apse, executive director of Presumpscot Regional Land Trust, has announced the grand opening of Mill Brook Preserve North in Westbrook at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21.
Westbrook Mayor Michael Sanphy will speak. The event will precede a two-mile trail walk led by Toby Jacobs, land trust stewardship and outreach coordinator.

Knights sponsor blood drive
The Westbrook Knights of Columbus Council 2219 is sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive 1-6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, at St. Hyacinth’s Church Hall (St. Anthony Parish), 295 Brown St., Westbrook.
Poetry Series reminder
Mark Swiedom and Lennie Newman will be featured at the Lowry’s Lodge Poetry Series at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Continuum for Creativity, 863 Main St.
Swiedom is billed as a naturalist, Texas-born poet of earth and transcendance, a longtime Maine mill worker and a back-to-schooler. Newman is “an emerging poet who views poetry as the second manifestation of human expression,” according to Lowry’s Lodge.
A question-and-answer session will also be held. Light fare will be served. A $4 donation is suggested.
