A Windham man faces charges of eluding police, operating with a suspended license and providing a false name to police following a police chase Monday on Washington Avenue in Portland’s East End.

Jason Gergler, 35, was stopped by Maine State Trooper Patrick Flanagan. Gergler identified himself with the false name of James Ahyes. Gergler, who was carrying a female passenger in his car, then fled the scene as Flanagan checked the information in his patrol car. Gergler headed south on Washington Avenue, became stuck in traffic and entered a one way street. He then exited the car and fled on foot down Greenleaf Street before Flanagan stopped him, state police said.

He was taken to Cumberland County Jail. Gergler also faces two warrants out of Connecticut and two out of Maine.
