A Florida woman pleaded guilty Friday to being part of a conspiracy to commit credit card fraud in Maine.
Meylisi Rueda, 22, of Miami entered the plea to the charge of conspiracy to commit access device fraud in U.S. District Court in Portland.
According to prosecutors, Rueda and three men had been making purchases since November 2015 using stolen credit and debit card numbers. In June 2016, they traveled to Maine where, prosecutors said, they used a stolen credit card number to buy more than $400 worth of merchandise at a Portland Walgreens store. They used a different card at another Walgreens store, but a suspicious employee alerted police and a Cumberland County sheriff’s deputy stopped their car and found the fraudulently purchased merchandise, more fraudulent credit cards and a laptop computer containing credit card numbers.
Rueda’s co-defendants – Yaisder Herrera Gargallo, Jose Castillo Febles and Juan Carlos Febles – have also pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing. The four face up to five years in prison and fines up to $250,000 each.
