BRUNSWICK — Mid Coast Hospital and Mid Coast Senior Health, along with community partners, took part in a full-scale mass-casualty drill on Sept. 27. The disaster preparedness drill tests the preparedness and response of local, regional, and state agencies in a potential crisis.

The event, coordinated by Mid Coast Hospital Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Michael May, focused on a response plan for an actual disaster.

“As a Joint Commission accredited hospital, Mid Coast has a comprehensive disaster response plan,” said May. “Conducting periodic drills helps to ensure readiness and response capacity. Testing our process and looking for ways to improve, trains and prepares us in the event of an actual emergency or disaster.”

It was conducted in collaboration with staff and volunteers from Mid Coast Hospital, Mid Coast Senior Health Center, Brunswick Fire Department, Topsham Fire Department, Cumberland and Sagadahoc County Emergency Management Agency, and Bowdoin College.
