A pedestrian was hit and killed Tuesday night at a busy intersection in Westbrook, in what police said appears to be a hit-and-run.
Westbrook police said late Tuesday night that they were looking for the vehicle suspected of being involved in the accident at the intersection of William Clarke Drive (Route 25) and Stroudwater Street.
WCSH-TV reported that the victim was a 51-year-old woman, whose name and address were not released Tuesday night. Police told the television station that the woman was hit by a sport utility vehicle. They said in a news release shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday that the victim’s name would be released Wednesday morning.
Police shut down the intersection and issued a statement about the accident at 7:47 p.m. The intersection remained closed until about 11 p.m.
