He was born July 27, 1918 in Biddeford a son of Eugene and Loudiana (Jacques) Bourque and was educate locally.
On June 25, 1938, he married Simonne Landry at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford.
Leo worked in the Portland Shipyard for three years before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he worked for nine years as a laundry driver and, in 1955, he became owner and operator of Landry’s Laundry until his retirement in 1982.
He was a member of the Amvets and the Lions, and had been a Biddeford Fire Department call man for 12 years, and later served as Fire Commissioner under mayors: Pomerleau, Gaulin, Lemire and Boucher. Leo served on the board of directors of the former Webber Hospital and was named a lifetime honorary Director of Southern Maine Medical Center. He was also honored by the State of Maine as a fourth-degree engineer for his constructive criticism and suggestions during the building of the Saco Amtrak Station.
Leo was an avid sportsman, enjoying golf, bowling, shuffleboard and tennis, which he played until the age of 92. He also enjoyed playing cribbage. With Simonne he had enjoyed wintering in Florida for over 40 years until 2002.
He was preceded in death by: Simonne, his wife of 70 years; grandsons Shawn Bourque and Steve Katon; a son-in-law Raymond Dubois and daughter-in-law Joanne Bourque; brothers Lucien, Rene, Henry and Charles; and two sisters, Yvette Gagnon and Jeannette Bisson.
He is survived by one daughter, Marguerite Dubois of Biddeford; four sons, Leo P. Bourque and his wife Connie of Arundel, Lucien Bourque and his wife Valerie of Alfred, Michael D. Bourque and his wife Penny of Wells, and Marc R. Bourque and his wife Patricia of Kennebunkport; a special friend, Jeannine Paquette of Saco; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday Sept. 14 at Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
