WELLS — York County Shelter Programs is looking for three volunteers to each drive one Saturday morning a month to do food donation pick ups at Hannaford Supermarkets in Wells and Kennebunk.
Spokeswoman Joan Sylvester said folks may use a Shelter vehicle or their own, if they prefer. The volunteers will deliver the food to the YCSP food pantry on Shaker Hill Road, Alfred.
As well, YCSP Bakery at Notre Dame, Shaker Hill, Alfred, needs extra volunteers during September when the nearby apple orchards bring hundreds of customers to purchase bakery goods. Volunteer shifts are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. Participants may take their pick, but schedules can be adjusted to fit a volunteers needs. Possible duties include waiting on customers, answering the phone and assisting with the baking and packaging of the fresh bakery items.
For those looking to pitch in on a one-time basis, Shaker Hill Apple Festival, Sept. 2 and ,24, is a perfect opportunity, assisting YCSP raise funds for its programs that assist those in need. This large annual festival features many crafters, crafter penny auction, food tent, yard sale, children’s events and music.
