SACO — The city has hired  Glenys Salas as its new finance director.

Salas is currently working as a senior media analyst for Ai Media Group in New York City, according to her resume, which was provided by the city. She has worked for the company for three years.

Salas oversaw the ongoing development of a system to streamline external reporting for clients and improve internal media management, and she initiated the first round of formalized quarterly business reviews in the company’s history, according to her resume.

City Administrator Kevin Sutherland said an interview team reviewed about 20 resumes and held interviews in July and August with a number of these applicants.

Sutherland said Salas was a “phenomenal candidate” with nearly a decade of experience managing finance and data for Fortune 500 companies on both the client and agency sides.

“The world today is driven by data analysis, and local government has to embrace this shift. Now is the time for Saco, Maine, to be a leader in this change and Glenys brings the expertise, the education and the drive to make this happen,” said Sutherland.

Salas will move to Saco and starting the position on Sept. 25, he said.

The City Council unanimously approved hiring of Salas at it’s Monday night meeting. Councilor Nathan Johnston said he thought Salas will bring a fresh look and new ideas.

The city’s former finance director, Cheryl Fournier, left to take on the job as Biddeford’s finance director in July. Fournier had previously been nominated by city administrators in Biddeford and Saco to become a joint finance director of the two cities but while Biddeford City Council approved the proposal, Saco City Council rejected it.
