WELLS — The Wells Chamber of Commerce hosted their 17th Annual Chili-Fest on Saturday, Aug. 26 at the Wells Junior High Campus on Route 1 and the weather was absolutely perfect and a fun time was had by all,

The “Maine State Cook-Off,” sanctioned by the International Chili Society, is among the last events available for “chiliheads” to qualify to compete in the World Championship which will be held this year Oct. 21 to Oct. 23 in Reno, Nevada. The winners in each ICS category of this event will represent the State of Maine.

Chamber organizers would like to thank event sponsors – Primary Event Sponsor Kennebunk Savings, Gold Sponsor DF Richard Energy and Bronze Sponsors Ameriprise Financial Portsmouth NH, PeoplesChoice Credit Union and SIS Bank for their participation.

The winners for each of the three ICS sanctioned events were: 

1st Place Red Chili – Mario Saccoccio, Mad Hatter Chili, Enfield Connecticut

1st Place Verde (green) Chili – Dave Kelley, Swamp Donkey Kreations, Loudon, New Hampshire 

1st Place Salsa – Anne Marie Malone, This Ain’t Your Mama’s Chili, Granby Connecticut

The winner in the People’s Choice event was Dave Kelley, Swamp Donkey Kreations, Loudon New Hampshire.
